High School Librarian sees value in primary sources.
A must read, from one who has lived 7 yrs outside the USAThe most insightful comments about human nature: property that is owned by everyone is not kept up by anyone and its corollary, property that is owned by everyone is free for the taking by anyone. Her examples are poignant, especially her attempt to set an example.
Missy's love and concern for the ordinary people of the Russian hinterland overcame the deprivations and primitive conditions where they lived for 15 months. The isolation was intense, but expressed only in the context of overcoming it. The Russians responded to Missy with warmth that was in stark contrast to the very cold climate.
Not only did I greatly enjoy the book, but since I was away when it arrived, I had to wait for my husband and a friend (who is going to Russia) to finish the book first. Our friend immediately bought a copy for his wife.

My Grandfather Knew Them
Storytelling at its best

Another Wonderful Case With Vinnie Calvino!Vinnie is his usual lovable, cynical-but-caring PI struggling to make a living in Bangkok and live in that unique world where Thai and farang meet. The painful events he has happen to him in the first chapter when he's merely off to deliver a birthday card to a bargirl are the best introduction to both the story and Calvino himself. As expected, the other characters, some based on real expats in Bangkok, are just as believable and just as easy to love or loathe or sometimes do both at the same time; this is indeed a brilliant writing characteristic of Christopher G. Moore. If this book proceeds for you the way it did for me, you'll wipe it out within a day or two but if you're anywhere in Thailand when you do, you might be in a bar, sipping a beer or some Mekhong and feel as though you've transported yourself into the heart of Moore's writing and that Vinnie will be joining you soon for a whiskey himself. If you want fun, fantastic literary work and the most enjoyable means to learn about Thailand, get this book lao-lao. You'll love it!

Wonderful chrisitan novel
Sizzling like beef baconBacall Lee prayed a selfish prayer asking God to send her a guy who's handsome, popular, charming and lovable. That prayer went from her mouth straight to God's ears. Awhile later Bacall was at a party with friends, where she meets Rory Kerry. Bacall thinks Rory is the one, tall, dark, handsome and bald. One night temptation shows its head. Will Bacall continue to keep God first, and save herself for her husband? Or push her beliefs aside and taste temptation.
Flame was a wonderful uplifting read; it is categorized for young adults, but everyone will get something from Flame. I closed the book with a challenge, to get to know God. I want to feel that burning passion Bacall and the Rev. Brandon Lee talked about throughout Flame. This book is a page turner you need to read.
